Tom Cruise Performed Mission Impossible 7's Biggest Stunt On Day 1, In Case He Died

The Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One cast and crew filmed the movie’s most dangerous stunt on the very first day of production. The reason? If star Tom Cruise was injured or died performing the stunt, the production could halt or shift gears without costing absurd amounts of money.

In the stunt in question, Cruise rides a motorcycle off a cliff and then base jumps from the air to safety. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight (via Variety), Cruise explained the logic of doing the stunt the very first day of production. “Well we know either we will continue with the film or we’re not. Let’s know day one!” he said, “Let us know day one what is going to happen: Do we all continue or is it a major rewrite?”

He elaborated that he didn’t want to distract from such dangerous stunt with any of the other work of filming. He added, “I was training and I was ready. You have to be razor sharp when you’re doing something like that. It was very important as we were prepping the film that it was actually the first thing. I don’t want to drop that and go shoot other things and have my mind somewhere else. Everyone was prepped. Let’s just get it done.”

MI7 director Christopher McQuarrie talked about the reasoning in a more story-driven way. In a interview with Empire Magazine, he said, “Doing that on day one gave us all the time in the world to understand why he [Ethan] was doing what he was doing. If we sat around and tried to figure out these movies the old-fashioned way, you’d never find it, simply because it’s such a living, breathing thing.”

If you want to find out more about this stunt, a behind-the-scenes video was released back in December 2022. Production on MI8 has been delayed amid the ongoing writer’s strike. Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One releases on July 12, 2023.

Crown Resorts Limited being sued in Federal Court by AusTRAC

The anti-money laundering watchdog for Australia has reportedly commenced civil penalty proceedings against Crown Resorts Limited over the casino operator’s alleged failure to comply with a range of federal financial probity regulations.

According to a report from Business News Australia, the move from the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AusTRAC) comes after the states of Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia commenced official enforcement investigations into the operator’s past compliance with a range of anti-money laundering protocols. The source detailed that these probes subsequently led to the implementation of several penalties including the denial of a casino license for the firm’s new Crown Sydney development as well as a series of sanctions on its flagship Crown Melbourne property.

Robust ramifications:

Nicole Rose serves as the Chief Executive Officer for AusTRAC and she reportedly disclosed that the Federal Court action contends that Crown Resorts Limited had failed to meet anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing obligations at both its gambling-friendly Crown Melbourne and Crown Perth facilities. The watchdog purportedly moreover noted that such shortcomings could have made the casino company and the wider domestic financial system vulnerable to criminal exploitation.

Reportedly read a statement from Rose…

“AusTRAC’s investigation identified poor governance, risk management and failures to have and maintain a compliant anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing program detailing how Crown Resorts Limited would identify, mitigate and manage the risk of its products and services being misused for money laundering or terrorism financing. It also failed to carry out appropriate ongoing customer due diligence including on some very high-risk customers, which led to widespread and serious non-compliance over a number of years.”

Contentious claims:

The legal action from AusTRAC is reportedly set to argue that Crown Resorts Limited had failed to appropriately assess the money laundering and terrorism financing hazards it faced and had simultaneously neglected to implement a risk-based transaction monitoring program to oversee and identify potentially suspicious activities. The watchdog will purportedly furthermore contend that the casino operator did not run appropriate enhanced customer due diligence programs to certify the probity of high-risk customers while having a management structure that was seemingly unconcerned about such threats.

Nuanced notice:

Rose reportedly asserted that the move from AusTRAC will additionally serve as ‘an important reminder’ to casino firms across Australia that they must operate ‘a strong anti-money laundering program’ so as to ‘protect their business and the community from serious and organized crime’.

The statement from Rose reportedly read…

“AusTRAC has taken this strong action to achieve enduring change and ensure that Crown Resorts Limited will fully meet its obligations to protect itself and Australia’s financial system from criminal activity. Crown Resorts Limited is taking steps towards improving its systems, processes and resourcing but there is further work to do and we will continue to work closely with Crown Resorts Limited to address ongoing compliance concerns.”

Legislation tabled that would bring online sportsbetting to Hawaii

In the American state of Hawaii and lawmakers are reportedly considering a new piece of legislation that could see the island jurisdiction legalize online sportsbetting with an associated 55% tax rate on any player winnings.

According to a Sunday report from local television broadcaster KHON-TV, John Mizuno (pictured) from the 51-seat Hawaii House of Representatives proposed his House Bill 1815 late last month in hopes of getting ‘The Aloha State’ to follow the likes of Pennsylvania, Arizona, Illinois and New Jersey in legalizing online sportsbetting. The Democrat lawmaker purportedly divulged that his measure used as an example legislation that recently brought remote sports wagering with an associated 50% tax rate to New York, which is a tariff that is nevertheless considerably higher than Nevada’s more modest 6.75% charge.

Overlooked opportunity:

The broadcaster reported that 31 American jurisdictions have so far legalized some form of sportsbetting in the wake of the United States Supreme Court’s 2018 revocation of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). However, Hawaii currently sits alongside only Utah in outlawing any form of gambling and as a result is purportedly said to be losing out on its share of the around $3 billion in aggregated gaming tax revenues that were collected over just the first three quarters of last year alone.

Mizuno reportedly told the broadcaster…

“You are going to see millions of dollars wagered on Super Bowl LVI and tens of thousands of people from Hawaii or local residents will be gambling on illegal websites that are offshore. New York just passed theirs and it has a ton of taxes but it’s going to go to a lot of good social programs.”

Wanted watchdog:

Hawaii is home to slightly over 1.4 million people and the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper reported that Mizuno’s measure would oblige the state to establish its Online Sports Wagering Corporation regulator with any resultant tax revenues being deposited into a special public fund. The legislation, which could come into effect from as soon as July, purportedly moreover calls for the imposition of operator licensing fees although this segment is so far devoid of any specific amounts.

Draft designation:

Regarding this ambiguity and Mizuno reportedly admitted that House Bill 1815 represents ‘an opening salvo’ that could be modified should his fellow legislators show an appetite towards finally bringing online sportsbetting to Hawaii. The 57-year-old purportedly furthermore divulged that his measure has now passed its first reading and will likely soon be scheduled for consideration by the Hawaii House of Representative’s Economic Development Committee.

Mizuno reportedly told the newspaper…

“What we did was copycat New York’s law. We wanted to follow New York but go with a higher tax. We said, ‘Hey New York got it passed, so let’s do what they did’. That was my request for the bill drafters.”

There are more features in the base game, more features in the bonus game and to top it all off, a 40,000x max win.”

Sportradar AG highlights the growing prevalence of match-fixing

Sports data intelligence specialist Sportradar AG is warning against the dangers of match-fixing after its Sportradar Integrity Services subsidiary last year detected suspicious activities surrounding a record 903 contests.

The Swiss enterprise used an official press release to detail that the concerning figure uncovered by the Universal Fraud Detection System bet monitoring service was the highest in its 17-year history and represented a rise of 2.4% when compared with the 882 dubious transactions uncovered for the whole of 2019.

Lucrative lawlessness:

St Gallen-headquartered Sportradar AG disclosed that the findings of its most recent investigation into suspected instances of match-fixing have been laid out in its new Betting Corruption and Match-Fixing in 2021 report as aggregated global sportsbetting handle for the twelve months hit an estimated €1.45 trillion ($1.61 trillion)Venir de Tragamonedas Gratis Online. The authority also stated that last year’s suspected cheating is thought to have generated in the region of €165 million ($182 million) for illicit syndicates although the true figure could be much higher if ‘other potential financial schemes such as money laundering’ are included.

Read a statement from Krannich…

“There is no easy short-term solution to the match-fixing issue and we’re likely to see similar numbers of suspicious matches in 2022 if not more. As the market has developed, so the threat of match-fixing has evolved while would-be corruptors are now taking an increasingly direct approach to match-fixing and betting corruption with athletes being messaged directly via social media platforms.”

Football failures:

Sportradar AG noted that its probe found that soccer was the sport most at risk of falling victim to suspected instances of match-fixing last year courtesy of a rate of one in every 201 fixtures in advance of eSports and basketball with associated ratios of 1/384 and 1/498 respectively. The specialist went on to explain that lower-level football competitions had the highest levels of potential cheating with 50% of all cases having involved domestic games from below the second tier including youth and regional action.

Troublesome times:

The Betting Corruption and Match-Fixing in 2021 investigation furthermore laid out the fact that September and October had last year hosted the highest instances of suspected match-fixing at 105 and 104 respectively with these months corresponding with the traditional start to the European soccer season. Finally, the probe uncovered that most alleged cheating at 22.5% had taken place on a Sunday followed by Wednesdays at 16.8% and Saturdays with 15.6%.

The statement from Krannich read…

“At Sportradar AG, we believe in adopting a progressive approach to integrity protection through bet monitoring and intelligence gathering. This has been proven to deliver sanctions against those involved in match-fixing while preventative measures such as educating athletes and stakeholders are also crucially important in the long-term fight against match-fixing.”

Stakelogic secures B2B gaming license for Ukrainian market

After recently expanding its product range into live casino, StakeLogic B.V. is now among the first suppliers approved to provide its iGaming services in Ukraine, under the Eastern European country’s new B2B licensing conditions introduced earlier this year.

Its business offering having been reviewed by The Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries in Ukraine (KRAIL), the online casino games developer was issued a supplier license for the newly-regulated market and will be able to offer its services in the jurisdiction once tax legislation has been agreed upon.

Bill 2713-D:

Signed into law by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in August 2020, after bill, 2285-D, skated through the Verkhovna Rada in a 248-95 vote, bookmaking, slots, and land-based casino gaming will be legal, however, casinos are only to be located in hotels.

Licensing conditions for B2B licenses for gambling suppliers were approved by the Cabinet of Ministers in Ukraine on March 31, 2021, which followed the relaunch of gambling in Europe’s second-largest country after Russia.

Expectations for region:

“The Ukrainian market has been on our radar for some time, with leading CIS market experts tipping it to be the territory with the greatest potential in the region. We are delighted to announce that the Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries in Ukraine (KRAIL) has reviewed our business offering and awarded us one of the first B2B licenses in the country.

“Our past experiences working with the regulators in other, strict territories such as the UK, ensured we were prepared for all eventualities in Ukraine and we’re pleased to announce that we passed all the requirements laid before us,” said Stakelogic chief executive Stephen van den Oetelaar,” said Stakelogic Chief Executive Officer Stephan van den Oetelaar.

Adding to the official press release, the CEO said they are looking forward to working with the Ukrainian regulator and its licensed operators to bring its “hugely popular” suite of games, as well as its brand-new live casino product, to players in Ukraine.

Jurisdictional approvals:

The Dutch online casino content creator’s games suite has also been approved by the UK Gambling Commission, Romanian National Gambling Office ONJN, and the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), while Stakelogic’s collection of video slots will also be available to Ukrainian players following the successful application process.

Hit titles such as the collaboration with Greenlogic partner Touchstone Games, Giant’s Fortune Megaways, along with the recently launched Black Gold 2 Megaways, the collection of Super State games, and the newly announced live casino product offering, which features roulette, blackjack, and various gameshows, have all been approved by KRAIL for the Ukrainian market.Venir de Tragamonedas Gratis Online

All of the games will reportedly be designed and developed in-house, with the division already offering a portfolio of more than 7 live casino game types.

In Nevada and the Station Casinos brand of prominent land-based casino operator Red Rock Resorts Incorporated has reportedly arranged to pay an $80,000 fine for serious past glitches in the sportsbook within its Red Rock Resort property.

According to a Thursday report from The Nevada Independent newspaper, the settlement was agreed with the Nevada Gaming Control Board regulator some two weeks ago before being unanimously approved yesterday by the five-member Nevada Gaming Commission.

Egregious error:

Las Vegas-headquartered Station Casinos was reportedly hit with the penalty in September after the sportsbook inside its 796-room Red Rock Resort venue was adjudged to have accepted approximately 348 wagers on events whose outcomes were already known. This practice, which is colloquially known as ‘past posting’, is purportedly not permitted in Nevada while the operator had initially planned to contest the fine by claiming that neither its patrons or the state had been financially impacted by these infractions.Come from ph646slot

Comprehensive consideration:

Jennifer Togliatti (pictured) serves as the Chair for the Nevada Gaming Commission and she reportedly disclosed that her body was obliged to review some of the documents submitted by Station Casinos because the firm had originally intended to challenge the complaint. The regulator purportedly detailed that these had encompassed specifications of the still-to-be-certified sportsbetting platform from GAN Limited that in October replaced the Stadium Technology Group-supplied system previously utilized by Red Rock Resort.

Togliatti reportedly stated…

“I have had the occasion to have some understanding of how we got here and I don’t have any issues with the resolution of this matter.”

Repeat responsibility:

In the settlement arrangement, Station Casinos reportedly asserted that it had ‘self-reported’ all of the offending ‘past posting’ instances and the state ‘was not deprived of any tax revenues’ while the software replacement move constituted a ‘very significant financial commitment’. Nevertheless, the Nevada Gaming Commission purportedly noted that this affair represented the fourth time the operator had been found culpable for such violations since 2018 although it still issued 167 wagering tickets in January that were later voided with the bets refunded.Come from Lodigame777
